A learning platform is more than an installed LMS.

ZERYON Systems builds and improves professional learning platforms on WordPress, LearnDash LMS and BuddyBoss — from designing complex learning architectures through custom extensions and integrations to the technical optimisation of existing platforms.

The trigger

The platform is live. Then someone asks.

The moment a learning platform becomes a problem is rarely the day it goes live. It comes later. The academy lead has to explain why, six months in, only a fraction of the accounts are used regularly. The quality officer needs the state of mandatory training for an audit and only gets it because someone spends two days assembling lists. IT support gets tickets because the course overview stalls under load.

None of these three is LearnDash's fault. They come from platforms built without asking the questions first: who sees what, who may do what, what counts as completed, where do the people come from, what happens under load. That is learning architecture — and it cannot be installed after the fact.

“We gave everyone access. Why does almost nobody come back?”
Quality officer
“Who completed the mandatory training in Q3 — and when?”
IT operations
“Why does the course overview stall the moment a whole shift logs in?”
Positioning

More than an installed LMS.

A professional learning platform does not come from installing LearnDash. What decides it is the interplay of eight things, each unremarkable on its own, that together determine whether the platform holds up in daily operation.

The order is not a ranking. It simply describes what we talk through before anyone picks a plugin.

Where we stand

We build with what holds today.

AI in learning moves fast too. What passed for AI in an LMS a year ago — a chat window beside the course, one prompt per feature — answers none of the questions an academy lead actually asks. So we work with what currently holds: specialised agents with a fixed scope instead of single prompts, agent chains for multi-step processes, the Model Context Protocol for connecting tools, and local models such as Qwen, Llama or Gemma when learning data must not leave the building. That list carries a date — as of 09/2026 — and in a year it will read differently.

For your platform, four things follow from that. You are not building on an approach that will be left behind in twelve months. What is technically possible today is buildable here today; you are not waiting for a plugin vendor to catch up. Platform knowledge and AI development come from one place, so you are not translating between an agency, an LMS caretaker and an AI supplier. And you do not have to watch the market yourself — we follow what arrives and bring in what has held up in projects.

What has been built keeps running regardless: standalone plugins with the source code in your hands, with no call-home dependency on us.

Approach

Measure first, build second.

Whether we build a platform from scratch or rework an existing one, the first step is the same. We look at what is there, then say what holds and what needs replacing. A hunch is not a diagnosis.

Assessment
Data model, roles, plugin stack, load behaviour.
Learning architecture
Audiences, visibility, completion criteria.
Build
Courses, extensions, community, interface.
Integration
HR, SSO, CRM, ERP — with defined failure handling.
Operation & measurement
Usage, completions, response times — continuously.

What we focus on

Eight fields we are deep in.

Our experience runs from designing complex learning architectures through custom LearnDash extensions and integrations to the technical optimisation of existing platforms. You do not have to commission all of it at once — most projects start with one of these fields.

01
LearnDash LMS — design and development Course structure, learning paths, completion criteria, certificates — and what the catalogue can take when it grows from twenty courses to two hundred.
02
BuddyBoss communities and learning communities Profiles, groups, feeds and messages as part of learning — with a role model that fits LearnDash's rather than running beside it.
03
Custom LearnDash plugins and extensions What is missing we build as a standalone plugin through the intended hooks — not as a patch in someone else's code that no update survives.
04
Corporate learning and customer academies Internal training, onboarding, mandatory instruction and partner or customer academies — including manager views and reportable completion status.
05
Blended learning platforms Classroom dates, live sessions and self-paced phases in one learning path — with registration, attendance and follow-up in the same place.
06
Interfaces and integration Connecting HR, Active Directory or Entra ID, SSO, CRM, ERP and payment — with defined behaviour when the target system does not respond.
07
Performance analysis and technical optimisation Measuring instead of guessing: queries per page load, database load, caching, plugin stack and hosting. Then we change the three things that actually matter.
08
AI-supported features Controlled AI agents for WordPress and LearnDash — with a task, a scope and an approval. How we build them is on the WordPress page.
Going deeper

For LearnDash we keep a separate specialist area.

This page gives the overview of learning platforms as a whole. If you are looking specifically for LearnDash — services, solutions, experience, learning consulting and the project calculator with a preliminary estimate — it is all in one place.

Two further places belong to this: our own LearnDash site under the PREGA Design brand, and the learning strand of the ZERYON ecosystem.

What it costs.

We work in person-days at a day rate, not in packages. The reason is simple: two academies with the same number of courses can differ threefold in effort once one of them connects to an HR system and needs manager views. A package price would have to hide that difference somewhere.

You can get a non-binding preliminary estimate through the project calculator: a few targeted questions, then effort and range by email — within about ten per cent. Prices deliberately do not appear on screen. What follows is a quote with named line items, not a ballpark.

Common questions

Questions on learning platforms

Is LearnDash alone enough for a corporate academy?
For a manageable catalogue with one user group it often is. As soon as several audiences, different visibility rules, mandatory content with deadlines, manager views or an HR connection come into play, it is no longer the plugin that decides but the architecture around it. That is where the projects that reach us come from.
We already run LearnDash. Is it worth optimising or rebuilding?
The assessment decides that, not a gut feeling. We look at the data model, role logic, plugin stack and load behaviour, then say what holds and what has to go. In most cases the installation stays and gets reworked in three or four places. A rebuild is the exception and comes with reasons.
Why is our learning platform slow?
Almost always one of a few reasons: too many active plugins each running their own queries per page load, course overviews computing over all progress without caching, missing indexes on tables that have grown, or hosting sized for a blog. We measure first and change afterwards — a hunch is not a diagnosis.
Can participants be created automatically from HR or Active Directory?
Yes. We connect HR systems, Active Directory, Entra ID or an existing SSO so that accounts, group membership and course assignment come from the leading source. The important part is the reverse direction: what happens when someone changes department or leaves. We settle that before the integration, not after.
What is the difference between LearnDash and BuddyBoss?
LearnDash is the learning management: courses, lessons, quizzes, progress, certificates. BuddyBoss is the social layer on top: profiles, groups, feeds, messages, app connection. Together they make a learning community. Together they also mean two role models and considerably more load — which is why BuddyBoss is a decision, not a given.
Do we get reportable records of completed mandatory training?
Yes, provided the platform is designed for it from the start. We define what counts as completed, record the completion time and the version of the content, and make the status reportable per person, group and period — as a report inside the system and as an export. What we do not do is assess your legal obligations. That comes from you or your legal team; we build on it.
What does building a learning platform cost?
We work in person-days at a day rate, not in packages. The project calculator on our LearnDash page gives you a non-binding preliminary estimate by email within minutes, with effort and a range of about ten per cent. Prices deliberately do not appear in the browser, only in the email.
Who runs the platform afterwards?
Either your team or us. The code sits with you, documented and with no licence tie to us. If you want us to run it, we agree response times, update windows and responsibilities in writing. If not, we hand over the operations manual and a briefing.
How do we know we are not building on outdated technology?
Because we name what we work with and put a date on it. As of 09/2026 that means specialised agents with a fixed scope, agent chains for multi-step processes, the Model Context Protocol for connecting tools, and local models such as Qwen, Llama or Gemma. In a year that list will read differently; we will then tell you what changed and whether it affects your system. What has been built keeps running regardless — standalone plugins with the source code in your hands.
Do we need AI in the learning platform?
Not necessarily. AI does not solve a problem that comes from missing structure — an assistant on an unsorted catalogue answers in an unsorted way. It becomes useful where people do repetitive work today: preparing content, answering questions from existing material, producing reports. How we build such features under control is on our WordPress page.
